Rituals for Midweek Grace
There’s something I love about a Wednesday. It’s not asking for ceremony—it’s not a holiday, a milestone, or a Sabbath. It’s just a little flag in the middle of the week, waving gently, saying: You’re here. That’s enough.
This midsummer ritual is for that kind of day—when the world feels a little loud and you need something quiet to return to. A way to center. A way to bless the ordinary. A way to remember that beauty doesn’t need a reason. Because grace doesn’t always arrive with fanfare. Sometimes it shows up in a flame, a plate, a pause. I light candles for leftovers.
Sometimes I even use my grandmother’s china and pour water into the good crystal goblets, just because it’s Tuesday. I’ve stopped waiting for special occasions. I stop thinking effort is what makes something sacred.
What makes something sacred, I’ve found, is that you notice it.
That you bless it with your presence.
That you say, in your body if not in words:
This is enough. This is life. I’m here …
