A Warming Chocolate Cordial for the Winter Solstice!
A Divine and Sweet Holiday Drink
What a beautiful Autumn it's been, so rich in warmth and color. Now that my gardens are put to bed and Thanksgiving has come and gone, it's time to turn once again to making preparations for my favorite time of year, the longest night of the yearβthe Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice is the perfect holiday for those of us who love to celebrate, especially Jewish girls like me who adore the festive spirit of Christmas.
Typically, we gather a group of family and friends for this special occasion, filling our home with wonderful food and delightful drinks. I always make sure to have a special cocktail ready for the evening, and nothing says cozy celebration quite like a rich chocolate-flavored treat during the holiday season.
Store-bought chocolate liqueurs often fall short of delivering the intense chocolate flavor I crave. Imagine my delight when I discovered how to make my own using a recipe inspired by Scharffen Berger Chocolate Makers (read this delightful story about founders Dr. Robert Steinberg and John Scharffenberger HERE). I believe you'll fall in love with this recipe too, and I can't wait to hear about the delicious memories you create with it.
This year, I'm planning to whip up a large batch to enjoy on Solstice eve, with enough left over to carry me into the New Year.
